Where are the best places to hear live music in Orange County?

Answers from Our Experts (3)

Though Orange County isn’t known for its live music or producing local talent, venues dot the area. Located in Downtown Disney, House of Blues Anaheim puts on shows by the likes of Yellow Card and prides itself on being home to the Quilts of Gee’s Bend — an Alabama-based art exhibit including remarkable homemade quilts. The Coach House in Sean Juan Capistrano is both a concert venue and a dinner theater. The unassuming building matches the rustic interior, and performances by tribute bands or groups such as the Bee Gees make this joint a staple. During the summer, if you buy a ticket to a show at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa you can visit the O.C. Fair for free. Tickets might cost you a pretty penny, however, considering Bob Dylan, Steve Miller Band and B.B. King are among some of the artists to take the stage. Orange County’s largest theatre is the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine Meadows. This mammoth venue can hold over 15,000 people in the auditorium and the lawn, and has played host to a number of national music festivals.

The Resort at Pelican Hill features live music every weekend. In the Great Room, there’s Live Music, Wine Flights & Small Bites, featuring Broadway’s Adam Michaelson, every Thursday through Saturday. At Pelican Grill on weekend evenings, live entertainers perform a variety of popular music, from classic rock to country to contemporary. At Andrea, a live guitarist performs nightly as diners enjoy seasonal Northern Italian cuisine and wine.

In addition to live music on Friday and Saturday nights at the Lobby Lounge at The St. Regis Monarch Beach, you can take in music at a variety of venues in Orange County. If you’re looking for a large-scale concert by some of the world’s top artists, you’ll want to check the schedules for the Verizon Amphitheatre and the Honda Center while you’re in town. For smaller acts, try the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, the Grove in Anaheim and the House of Blues in Anaheim.
