Charleston Grill

A private club for all Lowcountry cuisine lovers

Situated within the elegant Charleston Place, A Belmond Hotel, Charleston Grill is arguably one of the best restaurants in the Holy City. Step through the stained-glass French doors into a comfortably chic dining room room lined with dark wood-paneled walls and marble floors. The live jazz that permeated the venue seven days a week adds to the classy, Old World atmosphere.

Helmed by Alabama-born chef Michelle Weaver, the kitchen churns out Southern plates with an international flair. Classic dishes like crab cakes and tomato tarts speak to the restaurant's Charleston roots, while global fare such as south Indian fish with pudina chutney, and ahi tuna aguachile show off the skills of this talented team.

Whether you choose to linger over a multi-course meal in the elegant dining room or to nibble on flavorful bites at the bar, a meal at this Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star restaurant will have you coming back for more.

The Food
  • Four chef-curated menus provide a guide for the perfect meal with various inspirations, from global cuisine to Southern fare. Mixing and matching is not only allowed, it’s encouraged.
  • Vegetarians will love the roots and stems portion of the menu. An homage to South Carolina's botanical bounty, the selections include tomato cobbler served with mascarpone and tarragon, Spanish white gazpacho, and a rich mushroom cavatelli.
  • If you're looking for Lowcountry flavor with an international twist, order from the waves and marsh section. The Charleston Grill crab cake is a long-standing staple and you can't go wrong with any of chef Michelle's fish dishes — the south Indian fish (the selection changes regularly based on the day's fresh catch) is a particular favorite.
  • Carnivores will want to indulge in the field and pasture selections, including the pork belly and watermelon appetizer, a 6-ounce prime beef tenderloin, and the massive Colorado lamb.
  • The lush menu highlights the French tradition of extravagance with fois gras, caviar and a special six-course chef’s tasting menu.
