There are no two more classic items to bring back from Brazil than a canga and the famous Brazilian flip-flops, Havaianas. As soon as you hit the beach in Rio, you will notice that no one actually uses towels on the sand. Instead, Brazilians use sarongs called cangas, which are much thinner than towels, and, in the ever-humid weather, dry faster and are much more chic. Every Brazilian owns at least three pairs of Havaianas, if not many more, and they are the most commonly worn footwear day in and day out in this city where people take their lunch breaks at the beach. The rubber flip-flops come in all colors and designs, and make great gifts. Vendors for both items line Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, and also come by peddling their wares while you sunbathe on the sand.
