Rome’s opulent hillside spa
10 Treatment Rooms
Located inside the iconic Rome Cavalieri, which overlooks Rome from its highest hilltop, Cavalieri Grand Spa Club is a palatial playground for wellness. Secluded from the buzz of the city — it’s located about 15 minutes from the historic center — the 26,900-square-foot luxury spa is accessed by walking down a grand spiral staircase near the entrance inside the hotel. Here, guests will find a vast complex designed for pampering, rejuvenation and relaxation.
It’s worth your time to experience the entirety of the Grand Spa, beginning with the amethyst Turkish bath, which has hot and cold plunge pools, marble platforms and Roman mosaics. There are four swimming pools, a large whirlpool, and his-and-hers saunas. The glass-domed indoor pool area has a waterfall, a fireplace, a hydro-massage pool and a stone walkway that massages feet when walked upon. Fitness-focused guests will appreciate the state-of-the-art gym, Pilates and yoga studios, two clay tennis courts and an outdoor fitness circuit.
Not-so-subtle hints at the luxury of ancient Rome abound. Ancient statues, mosaics and Roman-inspired architecture adorn the luxe spa complex, accented by rich tones of mahogany and marsala. The 10 themed treatment rooms bask in warm tones and low light. The imperial-style relaxation lounge is where guests cozy up like an emperor or empress on cushioned divans equipped with cashmere throws. Likewise, the Turkish bath, sauna and indoor salt-water hydrotherapy pool all emulate luxe antiquity with elaborate mosaics, statuary and grand columns.
Outdoors, guests are escorted by polo-wearing staff members to plush divans surrounding the spa’s three heated outdoor pools (one is Olympic-sized) with views of Rome. The fitness team will accompany guests to the pedicured tennis courts and the fitness trail nestled in the Cavalieri’s acres of greenery.
Facial treatments are the specialty here, most performed with products by the ultra-exclusive Swiss brand La Prairie. More than 10 La Prairie facial treatments are available, including ones that use pure platinum and caviar (it has skin firming properties). The After Sunset Facial features a series of warm and cold treatments and a facial massage that repairs skin after a day spent in the Roman sun. The three-hour, head-to-toe Swiss Bliss Treatment aims to promote synergy between the face and body with immediate results.
The extensive spa menu also includes massages that incorporate Shiatsu finger pressure, Ayurvedic healing techniques, foot reflexology, chakra balancing and more traditional options like deep tissue work. Beauty-focused menu options include pedicures, manicures and waxing.
