An intimate haven in San Francisco
4 Treatment Rooms
Although The Spa at Loews Regency San Francisco Hotel is small, what it lacks in space it makes up for in service. From the moment you arrive at the third-floor sanctuary, you feel as if you’ve been wrapped in a hot and comforting plush robe. The impeccably attentive and well-informed staff warmly greets you by name, slides your feet into smooth jelly slippers and hands you a porcelain cup of steaming tea. You can’t help but instantly feel your stresses melt away at this rejuvenating retreat unlike any other in the city.
Walk through the glass doors of the San Francisco spa into the cool and dark reception area and you’ll notice the faint sound of waves crashing against an imaginary shore. In the common areas and relaxation lounge, there is a warm and natural color palette. Dark wood, cream linen couches, red pillows, mocha wall coverings with illuminated golden accents, and white and pink orchids give the space a subtle Asian vibe. Wooden cutout doors, abstract art and a Far East-inspired tapestry are museum-quality points of interest. There is also an elegant six-foot statue of Kuan-Yin, the Chinese goddess of mercy, holding the peach of life.
In the relaxation lounge, you’ll find an assortment of Jing tea, fresh fruit and other snacks. The spa boutique carries Natura Bissé, a skincare line from Barcelona that specializes in all-natural luxurious facial and body products; Aromatherapy Associates, a London-based body and skincare company that highlights essential oils; Elizabeth W, a local line of gifts and body-care items; and Spa Ritual, a vegan nail-care collection that is used in all of the manicures and pedicures.
Choose from an assortment of invigorating treatments all that incorporate the products found in the spa’s boutique. The Cure facial uses a three-step enzyme peel with five different kinds of acid. After the facial, your skin feels dewy, elastic and, most importantly, young. Prefer a massage? The spa offers four different kinds, including a therapeutic massage that can be 50 or 80 minutes long and uses muscle manipulation techniques and firm pressure to release all aches and pains. There’s also a pregnancy-friendly deep-tissue experience that is nurturing and perfect for mothers-to-be.
The Financial District spa recently launched a series of express treatments that only take 30 minutes for the busy, on-the-go professional. Pop in for an instant skin renewal or mani/pedi on your way to a meeting. Five different types of nail services are on offer, and we’re crazy about the diamond manicure and pedicure by Natura Bissé. It features a rich exfoliation of diamond dust followed by a removal with neodymium magnets resulting in the smoothest hands and feet around. The best thing about any of the treatments is that they are customizable. Work with your therapist to figure out the best way to meet your needs. The therapist will make notes of what she did and keep them on file, so returning spa-goers can enjoy the exact same treatment, if desired.
There are three single treatment rooms in the intimate, soothing spa as well as one couples suite that overlooks bustling Sansome Street. Each of the rooms comes with a rainforest shower, private wardrobe, vanity with any amenities you may need (razors, shampoo, mouthwash, etc.) and customizable aroma and color therapy. You are invited to bring your own iPod to listen to your preferred music. The darkly lit rooms have more deep brown and gray wood, heated treatment beds with luxe linens, and pretty orchid, lily and hydrangea arrangements. The nail suite is equipped with two spa pedicure chairs and two manicure stations.
