8 ½ Otto e Mezzo’s gorgeous 40-page hardcover tome of drinks, entitled Drinks Compendium and Collection, Volume 1, includes a whole section of mocktails amusingly called “0% Vol.” The Victorian lemonade starts things off summery with fresh Italian lemon juice, sugar and your choice of sparkling or still water. There’s also a selection of flavored sodas that are “carbonated to order in the tumbler...” including peach and cinnamon soda, vanilla and orange soda and thyme and lime soda. Then there’s the intensely buzzy Ginger in a Pear Tree served in a frosty metal mug, which muddles pear juice with fresh ginger, lemon and maple syrup and then gets dusted with cinnamon. On a wintry day, try the tea toddy, a mixture of homemade cinnamon syrup, elderflower cordial, dried roses and fennel seed, served in a teapot.
