The best table at Pelham’s, the fine dining restaurant at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund, is one of the two banquettes. Done up in soft sage green velour, each banquette can hold two to three people and are so comfortable, you’ll want to linger long after your dessert plate has been polished off. The rest of the seating at Pelham’s is made up of gleaming wood armchairs in brown stripes set around a matching table (its these seats that are closest to the restaurant’s one window). Despite being able to hold 50 people, Pelham’s feels intimate, thanks to cozy lighting and a plush carpet. Those who want natural light will gravitate toward the window tables — though be forewarned that Shanghai’s cold, damp winter makes these seats the chilliest in the house.
