Goods in Sharm el-Sheikh are generally more expensive than elsewhere in Egypt, but you’ll still find plenty of shops and stalls selling local crafts and souvenirs at semi-reasonable prices. Our Forbes Travel Guide editors say these are four of the best items to bring home with you from Sharm el-Sheikh:
1. Hookah. Before leaving the shop, make sure all of the hookah’s parts fit together properly. You can also pick out a few flavors of shisha, buy coals, and have the merchant wrap it all up in a bag you can carry onto your flight.
2. Jewelry. Some interesting beads and stones can be had in Sharm el-Sheikh, particularly Sinai turquoise, which has been quarried since the time of the ancient Egyptians.
3. Bedouin carpet. Sturdy and built to withstand the desert’s harsh weather conditions, many of these carpets’ elaborate designs make for attractive wall décor.
4. Leather goods. A number of leather shops in the city sell locally produced belts, wallets and other items for competitive prices.
