The menu at the Craddock Terry Hotel’s Shoemakers American Grille focuses on steakhouse fare — you’ll find a large selection of grilled meats and seafood dishes. Start off the meal with the crispy fried calamari with fried Peppadew peppers and shavings of pecorino cheese or the shrimp tossed in a garlic-citrus sauce for something lighter. Though that’s not to say that the scallops casino — broiled with a crispy panko-breadcrumb topping that masks the fillings of bacon, onion and tri-colored peppers — won’t tempt you. Those looking for lighter dishes have plenty of salad choices, like a traditional Caesar, warm spinach or a classic caprese salad made with fresh tomato, mozzarella, basil and roasted red peppers. For heartier items, we recommend the 14-ounce sirloin that’s served with your choice of béarnaise, peppercorn or fromage sauce, or the filet mignon, a tender eight-ounce cut plated with garlic-and-chive mashed potatoes. Seafood items include the blackened grilled salmon with a sweet corn hash and a Cajun cream sauce for a little spice as well as the signature crab cake that’s broiled and comes with a spicy remoulade sauce and housemade coleslaw. But the Lynchburg, Virginia, restaurant doesn’t neglect its diners who have dietary restrictions, as there’s a personalized vegetable plate available as well as gluten-free options upon request.
