A luxe, hillside spa in tropical St. Martin
7 Treatment Rooms
La Samanna Spa is a hillside oasis tucked within the enclave of St. Martin’s Belmond La Samanna resort. Nestled among beautiful lush gardens, the Balinese-style spa combines dark woods and rich orange and lime green accents to evoke a relaxed yet elegant Caribbean vibe. This spa is an intimate one, and guests receive a high level of personalized service.
Mother Nature packs some serious healing power, and La Samanna’s spa knows how to harness it. Five of La Samanna’s seven treatment rooms feature private Zen gardens and outdoor showers. A gravel path winds through artfully crafted verdant gardens, an ideal place to let post-treatment serenity linger. Indoors, the treatment rooms’ minimal, graceful décor — dark woods, travertine floors — keeps the focus on the lush, natural scene outside. Couples rooms are available for those who wish to experience treatments together.
The spa menu is comprehensive but not overwhelming, with a few bespoke services that help guests ease into island living. The Just Arrived package, for instance, features a refreshing body scrub followed by a 50-minute Swedish massage to work out the tension that comes with traveling; the Sun Preparation service starts with a body polish and 50-minute Swedish avocado oil massage and ends with a purifying facial. On the occasion you’ve had too much of that intense Caribbean sun, the Sunburn Rescue aims to ease the sting with a pure aloe-based thermal wrap that soothes and infuses moisture.
Mainstay treatments like manicures, pedicures, waxing and facials are available, but you may want to indulge in a few of the ancient traditional therapies such as the Energetic Chinese Moxa Massage or the shiatsu and reiki massages. Heal more than your spirit with a naturopathy consultation, where you’ll learn natural ways to bring your physical health into balance. Want a confidence boost? La Samanna’s anti-cellulite treatment, which uses natural techniques to improve the condition and appearance of your skin, may just have you fearlessly strolling the resort’s gorgeous Baie Longue beach.
La Samanna Spa draws on natural remedies like Roucou oil, derived from a Caribbean plant whose red seeds were historically used by natives to hydrate and protect their skin. (It also happens to enrich the looks of a golden suntan.) A bottle of the oil is included with a pre-sun treatment so you can continue to pamper yourself long after your day at the spa is over.
Products by the French brand Pure Altitude are used in many treatments and are available in the spa’s welcome area. This line uses natural active ingredients too, mostly from mountain plants like edelweiss, birch sap and maca root.
