The best thing to bring home from Taipei is some tea. Jasmine. Oolong. Black. Green. White. The locals don’t settle for Lipton, making Taiwan one of the best places in all of Asia to buy tea. In fact, locals consume most of the high quality tea in Taiwan. Tea competitions and tastings are common, and it is worth your time to browse through Taipei’s historical Wistaria Tea House if only to be invited for a tasting. One of the best varieties is the High Mountain Oolong, which is delicious either hot or cold or paired with milk.
If tea just doesn’t do it for you, head to the central Jade Market. You’ll find plenty of options, from pendants to bangles, carvings to earrings, but unless you’re a jade expert, play it safe and don’t spend a fortune.
