During his nearly 30-year career, this award-winning hospitality designer has built a reputation for creating warm, modern spaces at elite international hotels and restaurants. As a young Taiwanese immigrant growing up on New York’s Lower East Side, Tony Chi first relied on his drawing skills to communicate before he mastered the English language. That same element of purpose carries through to his current works, which stress functional aesthetics over arcane design. After graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, Chi established his firm in 1984 and created spaces in locations from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, including Nob Hill Tavern at MGM Grand Las Vegas, Park Hyatt Shanghai and Andaz 5th Avenue in New York.
