Set in the Berkshires, Wheatleigh is a year-round destination. What you like to do will determine the best time for you to visit. Summer means outdoor music festivals (the Boston Symphony Orchestra performs next door at Tanglewood during the season), picnics on the lake, kayaking and hiking. A trip in the wintertime is a must for ski and snow enthusiasts. Nearby Butternut and Catamount mountains welcome skiers with snow-packed lanes and various levels to challenge even the best on the slopes. Don’t forget to take in the view from the top of the mountains before you race down to après-ski — the view of the Berkshires is stunning, especially at dusk when you can watch the sunset. That said, summer does tend to be a busier time of year for the Berkshires, so if you’re looking for a quieter getaway, winter and spring might be the best option for you.
