The Captain Lord Mansion is located just a quick hour-and-a-half drive from Boston and less than 30 minutes from Portland, Maine. This property is where quintessential New England charm meets a northern seaside escape in the tourist town of Kennebunkport. Hidden there among a tree-lined street is The Captain Lord Mansion — a romantic bed and breakfast that blends history and architecture into a charming three-story façade. Everything from the portraits hanging on the walls to the curtains that drape the windows have been sewed, hung and preserved by the innkeepers, Bev Davis and Rick Litchfield, who take great pride in showing off their Kennebunkport treasure.
The Captain Lord Mansion is set at the head of a sloping street that overlooks the Kennebunk River, and just three short blocks from Dock Square, where you’ll find sailboats, fishing docks and a few local fisheries and clam shacks in the summertime. Downtown Kennebunkport is a short walk from the inn, or you can drive the few minutes and park among the art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. If you’re interested in a little more extensive shopping, the Kittery Outlets are just 20 to 30 minutes away by car, and Portsmouth, New Hampshire, is less than an hour drive from The Captain Lord Mansion. If it were up to us, we’d park the car and stay put in cozy Kennebunkport, admiring the view and taking advantage of some of The Captain Lord Mansion’s unique amenities, such as wine tastings, personalized and planned picnics or just relaxing by the private fireplaces in each guest room.
