With the Sonnenalp hotel’s five different guestroom and suite categories, and different room configurations in each category, even returning guests (and there are a lot of them) don't know what to expect until they enter their rooms. But all of the private quarters have certain things in common: white-stucco walls, a distressed-pine wall, frame beds covered with checked bedspreads, a custom-made blonde pine armoire and comfortable chairs.

The suites range in size from the Lodgepole junior suite, with its combined bedroom and sitting area, to the one-bedroom Mill, Cross Creek and Gore Creek Suites. There are also the two-bedroom Golden Peak, Vail Mountain and Castle Peak options. All have gas fireplaces and large bathrooms with double vanities, oversize tubs, separate showers and heated marble floors. The Juniper rooms are the smallest accommodations in the lot, but even in this category, some of the rooms have nice down-valley views.
