The Sonnenalp was opened as a drive-up motel in 1979. The 38-room property has the same distinctly Bavarian flair that it did upon its debut nearly 35 years ago. Set the building in the European Alps and its alpine architecture would blend into the landscape. Through the years since the Faessler family bought it, there have been numerous remodels and expansions, but the high-alpine, Bavarian ambience has always been maintained. Inside the Sonnenalp, you’ll find white stucco walls and ceilings accented with timbered beam frames, wooden chairs and tables and other furniture custom made in Bavaria. Even the Western-themed pictures hanging in the rooms were painted by a German artist who spent time in America.
