The Lodge at Vail, which opened in 1963, was one of the first hotels built in the village. While it was originally designed to look like a ski lodge in the European Alps, with all of the additions and changes throughout the years, it's difficult to put a name to the Vail hotel's style today. The original building still has a touch of that alpine appeal, but the often-used term "mountain modern" best fits the International Wing added in the 1980s. Rooms in this section are dressed in autumn colors and feature gas fireplaces as well as oversize bathrooms with double vanities, large tubs and water closets.
