In the last 10 years, Vancouver’s shopping scene has taken a decidedly upscale turn. Anchoring the retail landscape is luxury department store Holt Renfrew, an emporium of all things designer (shoes, cosmetics, clothing and accessories), with haute couture rubbing elbows with coveted contemporary labels in the posh three-floor space.
The most well-known outdoor shopping strip is Robson Street, home to big-name stores like J. Crew, Zara and Banana Republic, spread out over several city blocks. Popular with both visitors and locals alike, Robson Street’s sidewalks are crowded with shoppers year-round, rain or shine.
Those with a taste of luxury can take the short walk from Robson Street to Alberni Street — dubbed Affluence Alley for its selection of shops like Tiffany & Co, Hermes, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.
For a more urban experience, fashion lovers head to Gastown, where independent boutique stock brands that look ready for a street-style blog photo shoot (think lots of black, cult labels and modern cuts). For more unique boutiques, head to other city neighborhoods. Gastown has become a center for new designers, with browse-worthy shops along Cordova, Water, Abbott, and Carrall Streets. Outside the downtown area, you’ll also find plenty of independent boutiques on Main Street.
