Despite Aspen’s reputation for being a playground for the jet-setting elite, the hotel is a testament to how that’s not always true. Walk into The Little Nell lobby and its popular Living Room, and you’ll find people of all walks of life congregated around the fireplace (more often than not with their various breeds of dogs) dressed in everything from ski boots to designer duds. While the hotel’s service is of the highest quality (the staff will know your name from the moment you check in), the attitude here is decidedly unpretentious. What’s nice about that is you can dress up or dress down, whether you’re collapsing into one of the deep-cushioned upholstered couches with a hot drink after a day on the slopes or enjoying a late-night cocktail after a black-tie soiree. Anything goes here. After all, it’s hard to take anything too seriously when there’s a cockapoo with a ponytail on top of its head sitting next to you or a 120-pound Alaskan malamute dozing on the floor.
