There’s no mistaking Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel was modeled after a Scottish castle. After William Cornelius Van Horne recognized the stunning natural beauty of the location, he hired architect Bruce Price to build the hotel in the very unique style. The stone façade and pointed peaks provide a striking outline in contrast to the lush nature surrounding the hotel. Inside, you’ll find plaid carpeting, stone arches, grandfather clocks, mountain themed artwork and, keeping with the castle theme, suits of armor. Large open rooms with high ceilings featuring hanging chandeliers and long windows that stretch nearly from floor to ceiling truly give the hotel a sense medieval luxury.
