A luxury gem on Barbados’ Platinum Coast
75 Rooms / 27 Suites
Editor's Note: Fairmont Royal Pavilion, Barbados is closed through November 2017 for renovations.
Between its beachfront restaurants and the verdant gardens that pepper the property, Fairmont Royal Pavilion, Barbados foregrounds the irresistible beauty of the island at every turn. The 75-room hotel, conveniently located in St. James Parish, offers a wide range of amenities and services, like watersports, babysitting and fine dining, making it a prime spot for romantic getaways and family vacations.
Fairmont Royal Pavilion is about 17 miles from Grantley Adams International Airport and is easy to reach by taxi or other transportation. The 11-acre property is perched on nearly a mile of pristine beach, facing the sparkling azure waters of the Caribbean Sea.
If you find yourself wanting to explore more of the island, the luxury hotel is a mere eight miles away from the duty-free and specialty shops in Bridgetown, the capital city. Smaller towns like Holetown (which is less than a mile away) feature boutique shops with handcrafted and locally made goods.
All accommodations at Fairmont Royal Pavilion boast at least a partial sea view, comfortable king-sized pillow-top beds, flat-screen TVs, a refreshment center and a large bathroom with a soaking tub. The Beachfront Junior Suites, located on the ground floor, and the Deluxe Oceanfront rooms each offer unobstructed water views and a deck or balcony where you can relax and enjoy the scenery.
The Signature Sea View Room sits just above the tropical garden with a furnished balcony that overlooks the lush fauna and the beach beyond. Its private entrance and close proximity to the shore makes it easy to claim your patch of sand for a sun-drenched afternoon. The Villa accommodations share a similar setting and include a terrace and living room and dining areas.
The Beachfront Junior Suites, the Signature Sea View Room and the Villa accommodations provide extra perks: VIP airport arrival service (you’ll get help breezing through immigration and customs), butler service and complimentary snacks in the evening. The larger size of these room types makes them perfect for traveling with friends or extended family. Interconnecting rooms are available with the Junior Suites and the Oceanfront Deluxe rooms.
The Barbados hotel is family friendly, though note that children under 10 are permitted only during certain dates (those 10 and older are welcome year round). The seasonal Kids Activity Program keeps the little ones engaged and entertained, and the onsite babysitting service makes it convenient to enjoy a leisurely dinner or spa treatment. A special children’s menu is also available at the on-property eateries.
Speaking of food, the resort has two alfresco dining options in Taboras and Palm Terrace Restaurant. Taboras, located poolside with expansive ocean views, is open year round for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Executive chef Kirk Kirton’s menu features fresh sustainable ingredients in modern Caribbean dishes.
To reflect the island’s British influences, a complimentary tea service is also available in the space — scones and pastries paired with a cup of Earl Grey is a great way to spend the late afternoon.
Palm Terrace is the more upscale open-air setting for Kirton’s creations. Dine on locally inspired dishes while taking in panoramas of the sea at the seasonal spot.
For ultimate relaxation, spa services — from deep tissue massages to chakra balancing — are available in the comfort of your room. In addition, the resort’s Sass Beauty Salon offers a full range of hairdressing and makeup services as well as mani-pedis.
Otherwise, you’ll stay busy with the hotel’s swim with the turtles activity, along with its watersports, including kayaking, snorkeling, windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding and more.
