Barcelona's sleek, modern respite
8 Treatment Rooms
Tucked away in the basement of the luxurious Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, you will stumble on a sleek, modern spa. Despite its location in a high-end, trendy neighborhood in the city center, The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona provides a quiet and soothing respite from the bustling Passeig de Gràcia outside.
Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola helped create the ambience by using colors such as black and white, and mixing materials such as wood and malachite. The common areas are dark and atmospheric: the spa-only lap pool backlit with a deep green, the steam room with tiled loungers and the relaxation room’s tan spa beds invite you to sink deeper into relaxation.
The spa offers eight treatment rooms, including two couples’ suites, two Thai suites, a lap pool, a hammam and a range of treatments and services from top-name experts to cosset your mind and body from head to toe.
Therapists trained by Linda Meredith, a 20-year veteran and world-renowned expert in the facial field, use her techniques to assess your skin and choose a custom combination of her branded products that are tailored to you for an immediate improvement.
The one-hour Couture Facial is a luxurious top-seller — therapists use encapsulated vitamins and essential nutrients to increase hydration. A quick fix after a long flight is the 25-minute Revitalizing Eye Treatment, which includes specialized massage techniques and the application of a Linda Meredith eye gel and VTOX (a botanical cream) to improve micro-circulation and drainage to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
The Body Treatments
Mandarin Oriental’s signature spa therapies were crafted through consultations with specialists in traditional Chinese medicine and master of aromatherapy. Treatments combine hands-on body work with the therapeutic benefits of custom-blended essential oils. If you book the spa’s Time Rituals, which encourage you to reserve time rather than specific treatments, your service can be tailor-made to meet your specific wishes and state of mind.
There’s a whole range of treatments based on traditional Chinese medicine, which has been the healing system for more than 2,000 years. The 80-minute Oriental Meridian Massage focuses on pressure points and the directional flow of the qi in the body.
The Manicures and Pedicures
The Barcelona spa is also home to the Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez, an internationally known podiatrist. Gonzalez has designed a unique foot care method incorporating podiatry, nail care and massage. The 75-minute Bastien’s Duo is a synchronized four-hands treatment that focuses on your nails, hands, feet, legs and arms for a blissful experience.
Another popular choice is the 35- or 50-minute Refoundation foot massage, perfect for getting you up and running after a bout of jet lag. The massage starts from the toes, moving up to the knees and focusing on muscular flexibility, joint mobility, blood circulation, skin elasticity and the volume of the plantar pads.
