The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston

VERIFIED LUXURY
Boston has always been a “hub” for luxury hotel experiences and The Spa at the Mandarin Oriental, Boston is far from an exception. Sure, this 16,000-square-foot space has all of the bells and whistles you’d expect: full-body massages, salt scrubs, anti-aging facials, spa pedicures. But, this extravagant spa ups the ante with full-day location-specific programs like the New England Retreat, which includes a full-body exfoliation and massage.

If you need any more convincing that this is an above-and-beyond place, request a treatment in one of the spa suites, like the Mandarin Suite, which includes 700 square feet of ultimate privacy, a personal stone sauna, a soaking tub, two treatment tables (in case you want to invite a friend) and an enormous daybed for those who need yet another surface for reclining.

Our Inspector's Highlights
• When you check in to The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Boston, you’ll be given an attractive amenity kit that includes a razor and shave cream, a shower cap, toothbrush and toothpaste and a comb.

• While you find inner peace in the relaxation lounge, you will be offered a refreshing cup of water and tea, as well as fruit and nuts.

• Be prepared for pampering when you enter the expansive wet areas. The floors are also heated, so no fear of cold feet when stepping out of the shower.

• If you want to bring home a bit of the spa, you’re in luck: the Boston spa has a boutique that sells products used during your treatment in the welcome area directly across from the check-in desk.

• Spa-goers who would prefer to enjoy the relaxing services from their guest rooms are in luck.  A few treatments that the spa can accommodate such as a traditional massage or reflexology.
Things to Know
• Not only will booking in advance give you something to look forward to, but the Five-Star spa is a favorite escape for both locals and tourists, which means it can book up fast.

• The busiest dates are typically Holiday weekends and major Boston events, like the Boston Marathon or graduation weekends (end of April through the summer months).

• If you don’t cancel within 24 hours, you’ll be charged the amount of your treatment on the credit card you used to hold the reservation with — a situation that could just cause you more stress.

• As you would expect from a sanctuary as strict as the Mandarin Oriental brand, no cell phones are allowed once you enter the locker room area. The spa makes it difficult to carry a cell with you, thanks to the robe’s missing pockets and the moist, healing environment.

• You’re welcome to wear anything you’re comfortable in because once you check in, you’ll be spending the majority of your time in a robe and flip-flops.
The Treatments
• After a purifying foot bath, two therapists will oversee the transformation of your body from its current state to one of harmonious bliss during the Oriental Harmony Signature treatment.

• The rejuvenating De-Stress Mind Body Wrap treatment begins with a body exfoliation, followed by a massage with oil and gels to de-stress the body. The mind also gets its own personalized attention with a “mind-freeing” scalp massage.

• For frequent travelers or those who spend too much time craning their necks looking at the computer or i-somethings, this massage will loosen the kinks and aches in your neck, shoulders and backs.

• A step above the Mandarin Pedicure, a Luxury Pedicure includes a longer massage element plus a paraffin wrap that softens and moisturizes the feet and calves.

• If you have extra time, schedule a 20-minute body scrub before your treatments to soften and invigorate your skin.
The Facilities
• Experience showers can be found in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms. Indulge as your chosen experience, (tropical, rainforest and arctic), interact with ambient sound, light, aromatherapy and varying water temperature to create what could be the most soothing shower of your life.

• The relaxation area might be one of our favorite hideouts in the city. The dark room is lit by tealight candles and plays soft, calming music. We suggest you just close your eyes and relax for a bit — just as the name suggests.

• The relaxing moist heat steam rooms take the concept of steaming to a new level. A healing amethyst crystal serves as the centerpiece for the room, which is designed to induce inspiration and meditation.

• Exclusive to spa guests, the Spa Café makes for a nice retreat after your spa treatment. Plus, its brighter lighting makes the transition from the dark treatment areas back into the real world a little easier.

• The gym is jam-packed with state-of-the-art Technogym equipment, a personal Kinesis Wall and a Pilates and movement studio.
