The drive over the Sagamore Bridge to Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is a little tense but mostly it’s a big relief. The narrow bridge, which was built in the 1800s, can be a bit intimidating from the driver’s seat. The steel bridge, however, is a significant monument in Massachusetts — it serves as a beacon of hope for Boston locals who spend their time in traffic inching toward to the bridge so they can enjoy their weekend in Cape Cod. Once over the bridge, a new mood washes over. You’re on Cape Cod — the easy-going island paradise that’s just an hour drive from Boston. The Cape is divided into towns, and most people have one or two favorites where they consistently frequent. About halfway between the beginning and the tip of the Cape is the charming town of Chatham, home to 19th century row homes, quaint shopping villages, championship golf courses and the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star Wequassett Resort and Golf Club.
Once over the Sagamore Bridge (a 60-minute drive from Boston with no traffic), Chatham is only about 20 minutes down Route 6. The one-lane, tree-lined drive is quintessential Cape Cod — enjoy the views, but watch your speed. Cops frequent Route 6 and have no problem stopping traffic to catch a speeder. Take Exit 11 and turn left at the bottom of the ramp. About 25 yards in front of you is a residential road that leads to the resort.
Pleasant Bay Road is so hidden that if you blink you’ll miss it, so pay close attention. A short five-minute drive down Pleasant Bay Road will lead you to the entrance of Wequassett Resort and Golf Club. It is a gated resort that’s just minutes from Chatham’s downtown historical district and local championship golf courses. Wequassett Resort and Golf Club is nestled right atop Pleasant Bay, which leads to the Atlantic Ocean, giving you the best views of Cape Cod from your private balcony.
