A Swiss spa sanctuary with a Caribbean spin
16 Treatment Rooms
The legend of La Prairie skincare was born along the shores of Lac Léman, the largest Alpine lake in Switzerland. Today’s spa-goers need not cross the pond for such an indulgence, however, as one of the Clinique La Prairie’s most exemplary facilities — La Prairie Spa at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman — sits on a swath of decidedly different shoreline in the not-so-distant Cayman Islands. Just a 90-minute flight from Miami, this 20,000-square-foot spa occupies a prime spot on famed Seven Mile Beach, and with its foundation of cellular-level, restorative skincare products, it also boasts one of the finest treatment menus in all of the Caribbean.
Situated on the most populous of the Cayman archipelago’s three islands, La Prairie Spa is the centerpiece of one of the region’s most luxurious properties, The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman. Spanning 144 acres that fringe both the ocean and bay sides of the island, the sprawling resort complex features 365 guest rooms and suites; an unparalleled marine education program for families known as Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment; and five restaurants, among them the acclaimed seafood venture, Blue by Eric Ripert, with author, television personality and acclaimed chef Eric Ripert at the helm. Still, the resort’s pièce de résistance is the dazzling spa, affording restorative European treatments to guests and islanders alike.
In a nod to its Swiss heritage, La Prairie Spa draws inspiration from the healing powers of water, and it’s evident in more than its hydrotherapy treatments. Designed by architectural firm D’Aquino Monaco, the ample space features quartz, faceted glass and capiz-like elements, accented by silver and white walls and deliberate spotlighting, all lending to a sensation of falling water and lapping pools throughout. Even the locker rooms, whose wood walls are covered with carved polyester lacquer, mimic water-carved rocks. With soaring ceilings and furnishings cloaked in a muted, cream-on-white palette, each of the treatment rooms and relaxation areas recalls La Prairie’s Alpine glacial roots, feeling at once expansive and yet, somehow, deliciously private.
While the Grand Cayman spa offers all the desired treatments of a full-service facility — including deep tissue, hot stone and aromatherapy massages — a trip to this La Prairie sanctuary would be incomplete without a skincare service featuring the Swiss brand’s exceptional cellular, anti-aging serums and creams. The best of its packages afford both indulgences together, such as the Caviar Luxury, a blissful two-hour-30-minute experience blending a Caviar massage and a 90-minute Caviar Firming Facial. The jet-lagged can opt for the slightly more abridged Travel Therapy, featuring a 60-minute massage of your preference coupled with a 60-minute signature facial. And for those wishing to spend the better part of the afternoon in post-beach bliss, try the Total Escape, which marries a massage, a facial, and La Prairie’s pampering manicure and pedicure service to finish it off.
Whatever your pleasure, arrive early to relax in the Silver Haven reflection room before your services, and carve out time to enjoy the Jacuzzi and other spa amenities during your visit.
