A lovely garden escape in Florence
10 Treatment Rooms
Tucked away in Four Seasons Hotel Firenze’s 11-acre private garden amid centuries-old trees, contemporary sculptures and wildflowers, The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze offers a scenic sanctuary. You’ll feel at peace in the verdant, quiet garden that overlooks a 91-foot-long pool.
Behind the butter-yellow façade and pillars, the two-story spa is awash in cream and gold accents, classic art and statues. Best of all, the rooms come with floor-to-ceiling views of that beautiful garden, Giardino della Gherardesca.
The Florence spa features one-of-a-kind treatments. Some take inspiration from its garden surroundings, like the Iris Sensations, an iris powder scrub, a rejuvenating arnica body wrap and a stress-busting massage, or La Vie en Rose, for which the therapists don silk gloves to give you a reenergizing body scrub and then a head and upper-body massage with delicate rose oil. The spa draws on the Tuscan countryside for Chianti Relax, a massage that employs a fragrant oil infused with grape extracts, and the Tuscan cypress body scrub, in which the Tuscan cypress nut simultaneously exfoliates and hydrates your skin.
For indulgent services try the Gold Perfection or the Drops of Light. The former is a luxurious facial that includes a 24-karat gold mask that’s removed using natural magnetism. Afterward, your skin is massaged with precious citrine to spur lymphatic drainage. In the latter, warm oil from a lit-up candle is poured onto your skin as the therapist massages away your tension.
Teens have their own slate of services, including the Florenteen’s Facial (an all-natural treatment using local plants) and the Lady-to-Be (a gentle face and body scrub, eyebrow styling, face mask and hand and feet wraps) and Gentlemen-to-Be (body scrub, massage and facial) spa experiences. And children also can enjoy some pampering with the Chocolate Hug (a chocolate massage), Fruit Spa Experience (body massage and hydrating mask with a fruit scent) and Full Time Mom, where mother and child can have a spa day in a private suite.
Beauty fiends will covet the spa’s bespoke line from Officina Profumo-Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella. The natural products were made using methods that date back to the Florentine company’s 13th-century origins — and yes, they are available at the spa shop.
The luxury spa has 10 treatment rooms, but pairs will want to book the Couple’s Suite. Housed in a separate building, the suite comes with two treatment tables, a lounge area with a fireplace, a luxe sandstone bath and vistas of a private garden.
No matter which room you’re in, arrive early to take a dip in the pool or head inside the spa to do the rounds in the whirlpool, eucalyptus steam bath, Finnish sauna, ice fountain and lemon-scented cold rain shower or the minty cold mist jet spray. You’ll notice colorful LED lights in the wet area facilities, which the spa added for some chromotherapy.
Plan to linger in the relaxation room, where you can lounge in white-and-gold day beds under a soft, cozy throw and nosh on cookies and lemon water before your treatment.
The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel Firenze sits near the separate gym, an airy, two-story space filled with Technogym machines outfitted with their own TV screens as well as strength-training equipment. Its studio runs classes such as yoga, Pilates, range of motion (to boost performance and avoid injuries) and conditioning. Also in its own building, the nearby salon provides manicures, pedicures, hairstyling, straightening and permanent curling services, coloring, extensions, updos, makeup application, waxing and Shu Uemura hair and scalp services inspired by shiatsu.
