Bucolic bliss in Provence
Located in a peaceful corner of a French countryside resort, Terre Blanche Spa is housed in a sprawling ocher Provencal-style villa surrounded by cypresses, pines and wild lavender.
It’s the kind of place where you can happily spend the day from early morning to sunset — the palatial 34,445-square-foot spa features 12 standard treatment rooms, two private couples suites with Jacuzzis and outdoor terraces, a heated indoor pool, sauna, hammam, relaxation rooms, a fitness center, plus a hair and nail salon. Lunch and tea are served at the spa’s restaurant lounge, which has a tranquil outdoor terrace. There’s even a small boutique for inveterate shoppers.
One major highlight here is the elegant black-tiled 65.6-foot pool, surrounded by white majestic columns that are reminiscent of an ancient Grecian temple.
Those who would rather skip swimming laps can splash around in the outdoor vitality pool instead and get a little reflexology therapy with the high-pressure jets. Out of the water, spa-goers can sunbathe on a lounge chair in the picturesque private garden.
Upon check-in at the reception desk, you’ll choose the massage oil to be used during treatments. These are fragrant oils that are locally produced and range from lovely combinations like jasmine mint and lemongrass tangerine to lavender vanilla.
The impressively long list of treatments offer a mix of Carita and Ivo Pitanguy beauty products plus ultrasound anti-aging methods, aromatherapy, slimming and/or relaxing massages, facials and body wraps.
Unique treatments include the body sculpting Albatros, a signature massage that uses rolling golf balls to relieve tension at the deepest level and ensure muscle recovery.
Other special personalized options include the Biomecaspa program, targeted toward golfers and athletes (there are, after all, two 18-hole golf courses at the resort). The concept: After an analysis of your muscle potential assessment, several methods to improve balance, posture, flexibility and energy balance are offered. There’s also a package for high-tech fat burning and lipomodelling treatments with an Huber LPG machine.
Those more interested in total relaxation have plenty of options, too, including a candle massage that uses heated wax, as do beauty aficionados — there are more than 15 targeted facials.
If you’ve got kids in tow, the Provence spa has designed 100 percent natural treatments for children ages 5 to 16, from massages and body scrubs to a hairstyling and nail polish sessions.
The spa’s spacious Infusion Lounge features a seasonal menu of flavorful healthy dishes, creative salads, fresh pasta and desserts that range from housemade fruit tarts to soft chocolate cake with pecans.
The outdoor terrace is also open for tea and other beverages during spa hours. Opt for private coaching at the state-of-the-art fitness center. Daily classes are held and range from aqua gym and Pilates to meditation and yoga (sometimes held outdoors on the emerald lawn during the summer months).
Terre Blanche attracts local residents who come for the wide range of day spa packages available for non-resort guests. The biggest splurge is the One Day in Provence package, which gives you access to the hydro facilities, lunch at the spa restaurant, a 50-minute Provencal Escape scrub and massage, plus an Ivo Pitanguy 80-minute facial.
