What are the best things to see and do in Geneva?

Rachel Marusak Hermann

You’ll find many once-in-a-life-time sights to see in Geneva. As it’s a busy city, Forbes Travel Guide editors suggest you, whenever possible, make advance reservations for these attractions in Geneva:
1. Visit the United Nations. The second largest center after its headquarters in New York City, the UN in Geneva and its Palais des Nations receives about 100,000 visitors each year.
2. Take a boat tour on Lake Léman, Switzerland’s biggest lake. Get another perspective of the city, its famous Jet d’Eau fountain, and surrounding villages on one- or two-hour tours.
3. Tour the Tavel House. Get a historical overview of the city at the Tavel House. Located in the Old Town, the Tavel House is the city’s oldest private residence and now is home to a museum devoted to Geneva’s urban history.
4. Explore Carouge. With its French style, quaint boutiques, and relaxed cafés, this bohemian quarter of the city is a great place to spend a relaxing afternoon.
5. Climb Salève Mountain. Hitch a ride up the nearby Salève Mountain via cable car for a breath of fresh air. There’s nothing like the view of Geneva from 4,524 feet altitude.
