InterContinental Geneva

A private escape in the middle of Geneva
VERIFIED LUXURY
Placed between the United Nations square and Lake Geneva, the 18-story InterContinental Geneva has been part of the city’s history since 1964. Because of the hotel’s proximity to the United Nations building, it’s no surprise that it’s a choice spot for heads of state and ambassadors, but movie stars and renowned athletes like Roger Federer also flock to InterContinental Geneva for one reason: the privacy.

Of course, there are other attributes, such as attentive service, high design and first-class cocktails, that make it a desirable place to stay. Hidden behind a bamboo-framed exterior, this oasis is full of calm and privacy in the middle of one of the most international cities in the world.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • InterContinental Geneva has panoramic views of the hotel’s natural surroundings, including Mont Blanc and Lake Geneva.
  • The Bar and Cigar Lounge Le Fumoir welcomes guests into a lounge filled with music, rum and of course, an extensive cigar selection.
  • A lushly shaded pool desk makes lounging by the seasonal water a treat—even more so if you treat yourself to a poolside cocktail.
  • Spa Cinq Mondes maintains a full menu of massages, body treatments and facials that use products from the respected French brand (bonus: its lotions and serums can be purchased in the spa).
Things to Know
  • Both the hotel’s Sunday brunch and afternoon tea includes delicious French treats handmade by the in-house pastry chef.
  • If adults wish to indulge in a more mature brunch, kids can dine in a designated kids’ corner, away from the more serene setting.
  • For an even more relaxing activity, don’t miss the spa facials, whose names promise lofty results: the Youth Activator, the Radiance Reviver, the Lifting Line Smoother.
  • Before retreating into one of the six treatment rooms (one of which is a double for couples), feel free to use the 24-hour gym, hammam, relaxation room and sauna.
The Rooms
  • All renovated and refurnished in 2013 by noted New York designer Toni Chi, the 333 intimate guest rooms, including 56 suites and residences, have a modern Japanese aesthetic.
  • Rooms offer a spacious sleeping area, large bathrooms and significant closet space—most also provide a Nespresso coffee machine, fresh orchids and black-and-white pictures from Geneva’s landmarks.
  • For a one-of-a-kind experience, the Geneva hotel proposes The Residence, a nearly 7,000-square-foot option located on the top of the building. Decorated with the most delicate taste, this Residence can be reserved alone or with the full floor, adding nine traditional guest rooms.
  • The Residence has two full living spaces that can be connected or be completely separated; it also includes kitchens, dining areas, dressing rooms, a private spa room and a hammam, among other things.
  • However, the biggest luxury of these accommodations is the breathtaking view of the lake, the Mont Blanc, the Jura Mountains and all of the city from a 360-degree perspective.
The Restaurants
  • During the summer, Poolside opens next to the spectacular outdoor pool. After a swim, dry off and tuck into green gazpacho; salads; tuna, salmon or beef carpaccios; and refreshing desserts at the alfresco spot.
  • For a business meeting, consider Woods, the fine-dining restaurant with international and Italian dishes, and a Sunday brunch full of pastries, live carving stations and to-die-for desserts specially made by pastry chef Julien Malanska.
  • Those with a sweet tooth may want to try the Tea Time Trolley that wheels around the lobby area to offer mouthwatering sweets accompanied by coffee or tea.
  • If you need a stronger drink, soak up the New York Prohibition-era ambiance at Bar Les Nations with craft cocktails.
  • Or head to Le Fumoir, a ventilated cigar room with an exclusive selection of vintage cigars and authentic rums.
