Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu boasts three restaurants and several bars, each with unique offerings. Here are our favorite things to eat and drink at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star resort:
1. Adult shaved ice. There's nothing better than lounging poolside with a cocktail. But the swim-up bar at the adults-only Palm Groove Pool serves a unique version of a local frozen specialty. The signature "adult" shaved ice — similar to a snow cone — comes in a variety of flavors, from pineapple margarita to a sake pom-tini.
2. Brick-oven pizzas. While Beach Tree serves up great burgers and a mean fish taco, the brick-oven pizzas are a great lunchtime option. Try the mascarpone, prosciutto and arugula pizza or — our pick — the barbecue wild boar with pineapple and ricotta cheese.
3. Signature burgers. Hualalai Grille has some of the juiciest burgers around, all made with local beef. The signature burger here is the Paniolo (cowboy) Burger, with smoked bacon, aged cheddar cheese, onions rings and volcano honey barbecue sauce. The turkey burger with Asian pear marmalade is also good.
4. Seafood. Around 75 percent of the ingredients on the menu at 'ULU Ocean Grill & Sushi Lounge are fresh from the Pacific and local farms. Order the Hawaiian ahi poke sushi, prepared tableside with sea asparagus, ogo, Maui onions, white shoyu and sesame oil.
