One of the best Cantonese restaurants in all of Hong Kong is located inside the Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. Under the direction of executive chef Chan Yan Tak, the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel’s Lung King Heen restaurant offers gourmet takes on steamed dumplings, buns, rice rolls and other Cantonese classics served in an elegant contemporary setting. Lavish dim sum lunch sets are served from noon to 2:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday, and from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Dinner is available seven days a week from 6 to 10:30 p.m. and reservations are recommended.
Famous for its roast goose, Yung Kee Restaurant is another Cantonese restaurant recommended by the hotel’s concierge staff. Located nearby on Wellington Street in the lively Lan Kwai Fong area (about a 15-minute walk from the hotel), Yung Kee has a very long menu offering loads of dishes centered around different proteins — seafood, chicken, pork, beef and just about any other you can think of — but it’s the succulent plates of roasted goose that sell by the hundreds and keep the restaurant’s legions of loyal fans coming back.
Another excellent option for Cantonese is Lei Garden, which is located on the third floor of the ifc mall (connected to the hotel). While Yung Kee draws rave reviews for its roasted goose, the specialty at Lei Garden is the delectable crispy roasted duck.
