Situated on Mody Road, the 688-room Kowloon Shangri-La is an imposing hotel whose shiny, black geometric exterior is created in large part by the floor-to-ceiling bay windows in every guest room. Once you walk through the glass doors to the glamorous lobby, you’ll be entering the lap of luxury, thanks to massive twinkling golden chandeliers, a burbling fountain and huge Asian artwork looming above the plush armchairs and sofas. There’s a sense of old-world charm, notably in the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel’s public areas, although the rooms are a bit more sedate in appearance. Employing a neutral and pale brown color palette along with lots of light cherry-colored wood furniture, guest rooms are simple and functional. The emphasis is on the stunning views, particularly if you book a room facing Hong Kong Island.
