Man Wah

Romantic Hong Kong fine dining
VERIFIED LUXURY
One of Hong Kong’s most romantic restaurants, Man Wah in Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong is quite simply a spectacular place to sample one of China’s favorite cuisines: Cantonese. The acclaimed elegant Chinese venue is especially renowned for its dim sum, served at lunch time, and the Man Wah Signature Menu at dinner, which pairs each course with either wine or Chinese tea. The culinary team is experienced at cooking for heads of state. It mixes authenticity with the freshest ingredients and a modern twist for lunch, dinner and specialty set menus as well as à la carte offerings. After a 2021 renovation, this stunning establishment earns bragging rights not only for top food, but its blue-saturated décor.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The private dining room is a great place to book an exclusive or special occasion dinner. It can seat up to 32 guests, and the space can be divided to provide a more intimate setting.
  • The service at Man Wah is welcoming and professional. From the start, staffers are accommodating and attentive.
  • After being seated, you are offered an aperitif from the champagne trolley, a nice touch with a hint of nostalgic charm.
  • Waiters in Shanghai Tang attire are well-versed on the menu’s signature dishes and enthusiastically suggest house specialties or traditional Cantonese fare.
  • Signature dishes at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star restaurant include pan-seared scallop with bean crumb; sauteed lobster with superior fish broth; and Peking duck.
Things to Know
  • Specialty cocktails and an extensive wine list are a major plus of the Hong Kong restaurant.
  • Both lunch and dinner offer two options for a set meal. The lunch set comes with six courses while the dinner is served with seven. Both include Chinese petit fours to wrap up the meal.
  • Classic noodle dishes are divided tableside, making sharing a cinch.
The Food
  • If you haven’t tried a soup dumpling before, be prepared for the steamed buns of gooey goodness to become your newest addiction. The Shanghainese soup dumplings with minced pork are to die for, but served at weekday and weekend dim sum only.
  • The Shanghai-style smoked codfish with five spices appetizer is the perfect bite, having a slight crunch on the outside and a melt-in-your-mouth, delicate inside. It’s one of the restaurant’s top appetizers and a must-order.
  • The spring rolls are light yet bursting with the flavor of fresh shrimp and vegetables. The garlic overtones offer just enough kick to the perfectly sized starter dish.
  • Fried flat rice noodles are layered with brilliantly prepared tender strips of beef soaked in a rich brown sauce. The dish is hearty but not overpowering and the flavors are wonderfully executed. The rice noodles are thin and chewy and not too soft.
  • The chilled mango cream is an excellent finish to a delicious meal. The refreshing cold item offers micro nuggets of fresh mango and the broth is thin and full of tropical flavor.
The Look
  • Man Wah boasts one of the best views of Victoria Harbour and the bright city lights. These panoramic views set it apart.
  • The Hong Kong restaurant is covered in blue and gold with artful touches like a collection of golden lanterns and hand-embroidered silk wallpaper.
