You can walk or take a hotel buggy around the grounds and adjacent sights, but you’d be remiss to overlook the canals where a traditional abra can whisky you on complimentary rides to the adjacent souk or the Shangri-La’s sister property, Traders Hotel.
Not only does the Abu Dhabi hotel boast its own white-sand beach along tranquil water, it also has four pools: a striking infinity pool, a peaceful adults-only option, a kids-only swimming hole and another in the health club — all with views of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
Get a taste of Arabian culture with an evening shisha session. The staff is adept at putting together smooth, fruity blends — the apple flavor is a particular highlight.
Stay centered at the Abu Dhabi property’s massive spa and health club. The facility is so large, it’s situated in its own building adjacent to the hotel.

Things to Know

In the cooler months, the hotel’s beachfront Ess Lounge plays outdoor movies Thursday to Saturday starting at 7 p.m. Arrive early to grab one of the plush seats on the grass.
Shangri-La hosts Abu Dhabi’s annual dragon boat festival during the third week of October. It attracts both local and international visitors, and the hotel tends to sell out for the popular event, so be sure to book well in advance if you plan to attend.
