The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing

A classic example of urban sophistication
Unlike the other, more modern Ritz-Carlton in Beijing, this Ritz in the Chaoyang district represents the Old World charm that's often associated with the luxury hotel brand.

The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing's classic appeal is on display in the marble foyer with fresh flower displays, the spa-level heated pool and fine-dining restaurants like Yu.

Inside the spacious guest rooms, you'll also find memorable touches, such as a Chinese-style teapot and complimentary tea that’s perfect for enjoying before bed. The bathrooms have separate showers and water closets, as well as a TV that you can watch while soaking in the marble-lined tub.

You don't have to head to the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel's six restaurants and bars to find a delicious meal — flip through the room service menu to choose from a variety of Eastern dishes and Western fare. Though be sure to stop in The Ritz-Carlton Bar, a luxe cigar and whiskey lounge that also hearkens back to another era.
Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Beijing hotel is just steps away from the shopping at Shin Kong Place and a 20 to 25 minute car ride from top tourist attractions like the Forbidden City, so it’s conveniently located for sight-seeing.
  • Offering a variety of massages, facials and body wraps, The Ritz-Carlton Spa provides weary travelers with numerous great ways to relieve sore muscles from the long flight.
  • Marble-lined bathtubs come stocked with comfortable bath pillows and bath salts making a long soak a luxury that we won’t turn down.
  • The luxury hotel’s swanky cigar and whiskey bar features comfortable couches and strong drinks — which are the exact reasons why we love it.
  • Be sure to make a pit stop at the Ritz’s pool. It’s heated to a toasty 82 degrees Fahrenheit, which makes it ideal for doing some laps before hitting the Jacuzzi, steam and sauna in the locker room.
Things to Know
  • Ask the concierge for a hotel card. Since many taxi drivers in Beijing don’t speak English, having a card with the hotel’s address is helpful to give drivers on your way home.
  • Room service is a perk at any hotel, but during dinner hours, you can order from the two restaurants — Yu and Barola — and dine in the comfort of your own room.
  • The Ritz-Carlton, Beijing is a child-friendly hotel that will put together a special package of goodies for young travelers that includes a night light, corner protector and their own Ritz-Carlton lion.
The Rooms
  • Flower-patterned wallpaper adorns the walls, which are sectioned off with thick moldings that give the room a very rich and luxurious feeling.
  • A comfortable bed sits in the center of the room, and the seating areas include two chairs upholstered in a light green silk pattern with a heavy Asian influence in the stitch work.
  • There are two generous closets located in the short hallway off of the entrance to the room, as well as ample drawer space for personal items.
  • With double sinks, glass shelving and plenty of counter space, the bathroom is spacious enough for two guests to get ready simultaneously.
The Restaurants
  • Aroma is the all-day dining venue for the hotel and it offers a wide variety of Western and Eastern dishes, including Chinese, Indian, Japanese, and Southeast Asian cuisine, as well as fresh fruits and pastries like chocolate croissants.
  • The second floor Chinese restaurant, Yu offers elegant preparation of classic dishes as well as a dim sum weekend brunch that shouldn’t be missed.
  • Classic Italian cuisine with a modern twist can be found at Barolo for lunch and dinner. Think squid ink ravioli stuffed with crab, lobster risotto with caviar and slow cooked pork filet with a blueberry reduction.
  • In-room dining is a highlight at this Four-Star hotel, where gourmet dishes from the restaurants can be enjoyed in the comfort of your room. We recommend the Shanghai style fried noodles—Flavorful egg noodles cooked with pork, greens and topped with soy sauce.
