Peter Island Resort & Spa

A private island paradise in BVI
VERIFIED LUXURY
After a seven-year closure following Hurricane Irma, Peter Island Resort & Spa reopened in 2024 with a quietly confident reintroduction. The 1,800-acre private island resort — the largest in the British Virgin Islands — now feels more thoughtfully composed, with nearly all 52 guest rooms relocated directly onto Deadman’s Beach, placing soft sand and calm turquoise water just steps from every terrace.

The renovation reoriented the luxury resort’s center toward the shoreline, adding a Yacht Club at the marina that accommodates superyachts up to 200 feet. The Yacht Club serves as the resort’s social hub featuring a pool, a casual grill, a boutique and courts for pickleball, bocce and basketball. Dining is focused and unfussy, while the 10,000-square-foot seaside spa overlooks Big Reef Bay and favors spacious treatment rooms and open-air serenity over trend-driven theatrics. With five beaches, a scenic island hiking loop and a renewed sense of intention, Peter Island’s return is well worth the wait.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Peter Island’s five beaches are each delightfully unique: the secluded Honeymoon Beach stays glassy and calm for swimming, while White Bay is the go-to for snorkeling and late-afternoon lounging without crowds.
  • The Yacht Club isn’t just for arrivals by sea; it functions as a social nucleus, where afternoon pickleball matches bleed into sunset drinks at Drunken Pelican with visiting captains and island regulars.
  • The Drake Steakhouse specializes in well-sourced cuts and Caribbean-accented seafood dishes. The tableside tomahawk for two is a particular highlight.
  • The seaside spa prioritizes silence and spacing — treatment rooms are set far enough apart that the loudest sound is typically the breeze drifting through the palm trees.
  • The Sunset Loop hiking trail offers a rare, elevated view of the island’s scale, revealing just how much of Peter Island remains undeveloped and blissfully empty.

The Rooms

  • Rooms come with a soft olive palette, high ceilings, wide sliding doors and breezeways that let the trade winds do much of the cooling work.
  • The design features woven natural textures, unfinished wood furnishings and coral stone floors — an aesthetic that feels local rather than generic.
  • Daybeds and shaded lounges on many patios aren’t afterthought décor pieces. They’re strategically placed to catch sunrise light for coffee and sunset hues for an aperitif.
  • The generously sized bathrooms have dual showers in select categories and large windows that bring in sky views while maintaining discretion. Outdoor hot tubs and showers maximize the luxury factor in the indoor-outdoor design.
  • The largest accommodation is the 22,000-square-foot Falcon’s Nest. Made up of a main house and two additional buildings, the gated villa offers six bedrooms, two kitchens, a media room, a spa room, a gym and an infinity pool and hot tub.
