Fairmont Doha

The Qatar capital’s stylish waterfront retreat
VERIFIED LUXURY

Located in one “arm” of the iconic, Arabian sword-shaped Katara Towers, Fairmont Doha is a stylish retreat for both business and leisure travelers seeking a truly personalized touch.

The scene is set for something different the moment you step into the grand-yet-serene lobby, which houses a 183-foot-high chandelier that’s the world’s tallest and weighs more than half a ton with individual wire pieces and 4,807 bulbs. More than 40 types of stone adorn the entry, which shimmers as staff, attired in runway-ready uniforms, effortlessly glide around ready to deal with your every request.

The rooms, which draw inspiration from sleek mega yachts, are equally as stylish. The spaces feature curvaceous, velvet headboards, gold accents, pillow-top mattresses and state-of-the-art technology. Many even have wraparound balconies to watch Doha’s famed sunsets.

For full relaxation, there is a 41,000-square-foot spa, a gym with its own spinning studio and a glamorous outdoor pool. And with four restaurants and lounges, encompassing everything from Latin American fare to modern Indian cuisine, taste buds go on an unforgettable trip, too.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • The other wing (or “sword”) in the building houses sister hotel, Raffles Doha, and guests can easily walk between the two — both inside or through the gardens — to sample other restaurants in the complex.
  • Rooms are elegantly appointed and warm in shades of white and blue, with eastern-facing units offering unfettered views of the gulf.
  • The Fairmont Gold rooms almost feel like a hotel within a hotel, offering personalized service from a separate check-in to a private pool and access to a lounge serving cocktails and snacks.
  • The Doha hotel is family-friendly with dedicated bathroom amenities, kids’ menus and a climbing wall in the gym. The kids club is shared with Raffles Doha and includes Lego Land and more to keep them busy.
  • The “smart” bathtubs in each room are the little luxury you didn’t know you needed. Filling and draining come at the touch of a button.

Things to Know

  • Fairmont Doha is in Lusail, a new city just outside of the Qatar capital that’s rapidly growing. Aside from the lovely promenade, there aren’t many major sights or restaurants in close walking distance. Ride-sharing vehicles and taxis are plentiful, though.
  • While the hotel boasts a luxurious, ground-floor pool, complete with plush sun loungers and stunning views, there is no beach.
  • Because of the unique design of the hotel, meant to emulate the dual swords on the Qatari coat of arms, room and suite layouts and sizes are not standard across the board.

The Rooms

  • Amenities in the 362 guest rooms are controlled by a tablet device, allowing you to open and close the curtains, turn on the TV, call room service and read a newspaper.
  • The smallest rooms measure very generously from 484 to 581 square feet. The most spacious unit is the two-level, 8,471-square-foot Presidential Suite, which comes with a private cinema, show kitchen and fully stocked wine cellar.
  • The 1,474-square-foot Doha Theme Suite evokes the history of the city with an ornate carved wooden headboard while family-friendly Junior Suites come with floor-to-ceiling windows with sea views, a separate living room and two 75-inch TVs.
  • Thoughtful extras include a bean-to-cup coffeemaker and a walk-in maxi bar/kitchenette stocked with treats and a pull-out cooler.
  • TVs, a separate bathtub and (gold tiled) walk-in rain showers and Clarins amenities are standard across all of the bathrooms on the property.

The Restaurants

  • With a mirror-filled interior worthy of a Bond movie backdrop, the two-level Provok Asian Project on the 33rd and 34th floors has a breathtaking outdoor rooftop bar area. Go for the vista across Doha, but stay for the seriously good Korean and Japanese fusion cuisine.
  • Masala Library by Jiggs Kalra offers an immersive exploration of India’s varied dishes. Their deconstructed version of the much-loved classic butter chicken has won many fans. Don’t miss the creative cocktails and the whisky cart, which is more like a locker.
  • South American restaurant Vaya Latin Mercado does double duty as the hotel’s all-day-dining spot but also turns out immaculate Argentinian grills and starters such as grilled plantains and vegan mushroom tacos.
  • Inside Vaya is a java lover’s fantasy – a branch of renowned French coffee house Cafés Richard.
  • Located in the luxury hotel’s grand lobby and extending into the gardens, the Dome Fairmont Lounge is the spot to soothe your soul after a hectic Doha day. Afternoon tea and the in-house pianist are the stars here.
