Hotel Principe di Savoia

A Milan icon with unabashed style
VERIFIED LUXURY
For nearly a century, the neoclassical Hotel Principe di Savoia, Dorchester Collection has been the benchmark hotel for all of Milan. In spite of its large size, the Principe has the atmosphere of a boutique hotel — intimate, personal and private.

Elegantly decorated in late-19th-century finery of lavish damasks, rich colors and collectors’ antiques in marbles and woods, the Principe is also wholly 21st century with an eye for technology and a “your wish is our command” concierge team.

If the Principe’s unabashed style makes it the landmark destination for fashion royalty, its rooftop spa, hush-hush vibe and enviable address (just a 10-minute drive, vintage tram ride or metro trip to the fashion capital’s epicenter, Via Monte Napoleone) create an enticing getaway for those who seek privacy.

Prep for afternoon tea, cookies and people-watching at the pastel-hued ground-floor lounge Il Salotto and later hold court at the Principe Bar, a hot spot for Fashion Week’s royal entourage as well as the local Milanese weekender.

Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The acclaimed Acanto restaurant has an incredible breakfast buffet (sweet and savory) and in the evening, it is open well into the wee hours. The icing on the cake is the in-room dining, in particular, the lobster club from the Taste of the Dorchester menu, which features signature dishes from all of the brand’s hotels (this specific sandwich comes from Le Meurice in Paris).
  • For freshening up, the luxury hotel’s rooftop Club 10 spa has beauty treatments, saunas, a heated swimming pool, treatment rooms, a gym and panoramic views of the city.
  • Royal treatment is top priority for all hotel staff, from the present and precise doormen to the all-knowing, well-connected concierge team ready to share behind-the-scenes itineraries, sneak you into the Last Supper and satisfy all hearts’ desires.
  • It will be hard to leave the sumptuous room — from the thick, plush carpeting to the pillow-like beds, the ornately designed spaces are a haven.
  • The bathrooms are stunning with white granite and mosaics behind the inviting tubs. We also love the large-sized Acqua di Parma bath products.
Things to Know
  • Children are spoiled with specially catered menus, private swimming lessons, babysitting and games and activities upon request.
  • Small pets are welcome as one of the family at the Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel.
  • All guests may enjoy complimentary car service for transport to the city center.
The Rooms
  • Jewel-tone hues run rampant in all 257 rooms and 44 suites, tastefully decorated in the fin de siècle style of soft velvet and damask fabrics, antique wood and marble furniture pieces and original 19th-century oil paintings.
  • The Milan hotel’s princely suites have hand-painted frescoes.
  • You’ll have a hard time getting out of the Principe’s beds, cozy creations of soporific pillows, exceptionally soft linens and delicious cashmere throws.
  • Investigate the luminous white marble bathrooms — the pale granite counter has a cornucopia of coveted Acqua di Parma toiletries. Look out for the great hair dryer hidden in the inset armoire, a fete accompli in Italy.
