Faena New York

A West Chelsea hotel with a fantastical vision
VERIFIED LUXURY
Faena properties have a distinct signature style that favors bold design and embraces a whimsical approach with an artist's temperament. When the Argentina-born company debuted Faena New York in tandem with Accor Hotel Group, some wondered how this outpost would embody the brand's essence differently from locations in Miami Beach and Buenos Aires. The answer is seamlessly.

The 120-room hotel is in West Chelsea, parallel to the High Line, and it makes a striking impression from the moment you enter The Cathedral, a space adorned with a wall-to-wall mural by artist Diego Gravinese. The city’s rich history of art deco design complements Faena’s fantastical vision, resulting in stylishly opulent spaces like the hotel’s sultry, all-red restaurant, La Boca by Francis Mallmann, and upstairs lounge, The Living Room, which features leopard-print chairs and gleaming gold accents.

Guest rooms offer a softer touch, providing spacious, light-filled oases that pop with red hues and comfortable furnishings.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • La Boca by Francis Mallmann’s ruby-red, draped velvet curtains set the stage for an atmospheric Argentine evening. Dishes such as the chef’s signature gnocchi and branzino a la plancha suit a sumptuous space accented by a custom flickering chandelier light installation, theatrical banquette seating and nightly live music.
  • The seductive Living Room has nothing but head-turning moments on its menu. A 160-foot-long corridor filled with leopard-print seating nooks and glass tables with gold legs runs between the two bars at either end of the room. There’s also a 900-square-foot terrace alongside the High Line that’s perfect for conversations and cocktails.
  • The check-in process is a pleasure. Guests are invited to sit down and relax in the beautiful red jewel box of a room with a welcome drink in hand, while the front desk takes care of the paperwork. Allow the well-connected concierges to arrange hard-to-get tickets for shows, private museum tours and just about anything else the city has to offer.
  • The guest rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows, light wood finishes and white linens, creating a calming respite from the maximalist public spaces. Each unit is equipped with custom-made Tierra Santa products, infused with a sweet, soothing palo santo scent, as well as marble bath fixtures and Toto toilets — all enhancing the sanctuary-like atmosphere.
  • Prepare to have your breath taken away from the moment of arrival. The West Chelsea hotel commissioned Gravinese’s hyper-realistic, 28-by-104-foot mural that covers the entire curved wall of the lobby entrance, offering guests a moment to recalibrate as they walk off the street and into the hotel’s universe.

The Look

  • The custom chandelier in La Boca was designed by Italian artist Alberto Garutti and was one of the last pieces he created before his death in 2023. It serves as the focal point of the space, and if you look closely, you might notice that the lights are programmed to flicker when it rains.
  • To say art plays a prominent role here is an understatement. The hallways have almost been reimagined as galleries. Hotel highlights include a Keith Haring mural reflecting the spirit of the Chelsea neighborhood, Edgardo Giménez’s playful monkey piece in La Boca and Juan Gatti’s work that pays tribute to New York’s iconic landmarks.
  • Sharp-eyed observers will notice several specific motifs subtly incorporated throughout the property. These include Faena's signature red rose, seen in the flowers adorning La Boca's place settings as well as in Giménez’s painting. There’s also a black panther, which is equivalent to Faena Miami's leopard, and the brand’s logo (a white fedora with a feather) etched into the travertine marble floor.
  • Faena New York’s aesthetic is a spin on art deco decadence, illustrated by 24-karat gold ceilings; heavy, velvet-draped curtains; the marble-clad bar and DJ booth; and lacquer-paneled walls.
  • The doormen’s statement-making uniform (immaculate white tails and top hats with gold brocade and buttons) make it clear you’ve arrived at a place that prioritizes playful theatrics.
