Rosewood Phnom Penh

A soaring symbol of a reborn capital
VERIFIED LUXURY

When it opened in 2018, Rosewood Phnom Penh immediately became a new icon for Cambodia’s historic capital. Topping out the 39-story Vattanac Capital Tower, the modern hotel offers remarkable 360-degree views of the city far below, from the former French colonial quarter in the north to the Royal Palace to the southeast.

The sense of style begins at the foot of the tower, where you’ll find the country's only luxury mall before you ascend to the 35th-floor hotel lobby.

Given its status as Cambodia's tallest building, Rosewood Phnom Penh is a popular gathering spot for locals drawn by the izakaya-style (Japanese pub) dishes at Iza, the French bistro fare and Cambodian cuisine at Brasserie Louis, contemporary Chinese at Zhan Liang and the remarkable grill and wine selection at Cuts on the 38th floor.

However, you’ll want to head one floor down to find the hotel's star attraction. While Sora's sophisticated whisky collection inside attracts its share of patrons, it's the alfresco sky bar that truly wows.

Our Inspector's Highlights

  • Rosewood Phnom Penh’s 72-foot indoor pool on the 33rd floor is a soothing respite.
  • The range of culinary offerings at the luxury hotel is such that you'll question if you need to eat out at all. To top it all off, one of the city's best sky bars is just an elevator ride away.
  • For sky-high pampering in Phnom Penh, there’s nowhere quite like Sense, A Rosewood Spa. For something extra special, cap off your spa day with a foot treatment at the renowned Pedi:Mani:Cure Studio by Bastien Gonzalez.
  • You expect personalized service at a hotel of this caliber, but it’s impressive that the staff is always at hand to help.
  • There are no bad views at this posh property, but the best vistas might be of the spectacular sunrise over the river. Reserve a water-facing suite to soak up the scene without getting out of bed.

Things to Know

  • Take advantage of the hotel's fleet of complimentary tuk-tuks. Ubiquitous in Southeast Asia, these three-wheeled taxis provide a fun way to ride to your destination.
  • Along with providing more space and amenities, the 37 suites also have a nice perk: free-flowing wines and beers every day from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the Living Room.

The Rooms

  • Rosewood's signature “sense of place” philosophy is brought to life in all rooms through subtle positioning of locally sourced and inspired artwork and sculptures.
  • The 175 rooms afford varying views of Phnom Penh. While the heritage district has its charms, we prefer the vistas from the Premier River Room, where you can lie in bed and watch the distant boats float down Tonle Sap lake.
  • The spacious accommodations start at a generous 538 square feet and all come equipped with marble bathrooms, 600-thread-count Frette linens and bedside panels that control lighting, AC and drapes with ease.

Nearby Attractions

  • A short walk south takes you to Central Market, a 90-year-old French-built landmark that remains a shopping hub for locals. Head here to pick up souvenirs and try Cambodian street food.
  • The National Museum of Cambodia is home to a fascinating collection of artifacts, accompanied by a comprehensive audio tour.
  • Though it only dates back to 1866, the riverside Royal Palace is the country's grandest regal edifice. The revered complex has been home to five generations of kings.
