The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya
Upon opening in March 2023, The St. Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya immediately captured attention. One reason is its unique architecture, which consists of three circular shapes floating above a wild red mangrove as a reflection of the Pleiades constellation visible from this same site every December.
Imagined by Edmonds International, The St. Regis features an array of amenities synonymous with its name, while at the same time tapping into local culture, namely the Mayans’ astronomical advances. The property is almost entirely beach-view, fanning out in elevated loops framed with paneling for added shade and a cooling breeze. It looks like an ultra-modern spaceship touching down in the land of the ancient Mayans.
The St. Regis also inaugurated the region’s newest luxury area, Kanai, in a private beach cove next to UNESCO World Heritage Site Sian Ka'an Reserve. - Architect Michael Edmonds studied the region, the culture and local inspirations for the property's avant-garde design, including an open skylight feature for viewing the Pleiades, and imbued each space with meaning. He also designed The St. Regis at an energetical center, around which the property circles spiral.
- Built above a protected mangrove, The St. Regis is dedicated to local biology with a consulting biologist and incredibly lush local vegetation. In many ways, the entire property feels like a sensory jungle garden.
- The St. Regis Bar is a stunning 20-person bar with a beautiful mural by a local artist from Tulum depicting different stages of the sun throughout the year. Order the Kanai Mary, a local take on the bloody mary that incorporates corn, peppers and cucumber, all ingredients from the ancient Mayan diet.

- The property sits in a private part of a 620-acre reserve, offering a feeling of disconnect and privacy that’s rare in the region. Guests are invited to visit the two neighboring properties and their dining establishments.
