Does The American Club offer any planned activities?

The American Club doesn’t offer any formal planned activities, but there is a wide range of Kohler-centric things to do. For a small fee, the Sports Core offers group fitness classes, which includes yoga on the lake in a separate lakeside studio. Sports Core also rents out tennis equipment and court time, as well as kayaks and paddleboats.

River Wildlife Sanctuary and Hunting Reserve are accessible to guests of The American Club for an additional fee. River Wildlife offers seasonal canoe rentals, horseback riding, archery, hiking, bird-watching and some of the best trout and salmon fishing in the country. Hunters can also enjoy trap shooting and pheasant hunting in an isolated, private area.

We recommend a tour of the Kohler Gardens, as well as the nearby Kohler Factory and Kohler Design Center. The gardens are lovely and the factory is more than just a place to gape at plumbing; the museum offers an interesting glimpse into the history of an American company. Between the months of January and April, Kohler also sponsors the Demonstration Kitchen series at the Shops at Woodlake, where you can interact with chefs during preparation and tasting segments.

The Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Kohler Waters Spa offers spa usage for $30, with some restrictions during the holiday season. This fee is waved with the purchase of a spa service on weekdays, and two services on Saturdays. Overnight guests at The Carriage House receive complimentary use of the spa.

Many visitors also choose to spend their days at Whistling Straights or Blackwolf Run golf courses. In the event a hotel visit coincides with Wisconsin snow, The American Club has cross-country skis, ice skates, and sleds available for rental, while Sports Core offers snowshoes for a small fee.

Personally, our favorite planned activity is the evening wine reception in the lobby of the Carriage House at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star hotel. It’s a great opportunity to mingle with other guests (many of whom are still in their spa robes, so you definitely don’t need to dress up) and the huge spread includes local cheeses and tasty nibbles. The Winery Bar also offers cheese and wine tastings; the front desk should give you a schedule of events
