A soothing desert oasis
31 Treatment Rooms
The minute you walk through the expansive doors at Sahra Spa & Hammam, you’ll feel swept away. You forget you’re actually at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. You even forget you’re in Vegas. It’s as if you decided to take a trek into the middle of the desert and found a sublime oasis waiting to pamper you after facing the elements.
Opened in 2010, the Sahra Spa was designed to make you feel like you had stepped into the elements. About 420 tons of specially imported sandstone from Nevada were painstakingly sculptured to the walls to mimic the desert.
Once you step inside and gaze up at all that sand and relaxing lighting, it’s only natural to focus on the many treats in store. Start in the deluxe changing room with digital lockers and the kind of plush robes that you want to bring home. You’ll need the robe after a soak in the extra-large Jacuzzi that has a cool mist feature to close your pores after a nice soak. Hungry? A tea lounge is only steps away featuring whole fruit, fresh-pressed juices, coffee and nuts.
All of this happens before you even get in an elevator and you’re whisked to another floor for the actual treatments.
The centerpiece of the Sahra Spa is its hammam, one of only three authentic ones in the United States. It’s a modern homage to the centuries-old Turkish practice of purification and renewal, plus body detoxification with steam treatments amid a heated mother stone. In the special hammam room, big enough for four, the heat comes from the floor up. The large warm slab is inviting, and there are also two deep-soaking tubs, steam rooms and loungers to make the experience complete.
The Red Flower Hammam Experience combines heat, steam, massage, detoxification and overall relaxation. Eleven flower oils are imparted onto the body as you lie on that warm stone platform. At the same time, basins of water are poured over the body followed by a vigorous coffee lemon blossom olive stone scrub. The next step is a purifying Jasmine rose rhassoul clay and cardamom amber oil application. Try being stressed even a little bit after those 80 minutes of heaven.
Those who want to detox might enjoy the Moroccan Journey, where for 130 minutes you unwind in privacy and indulge in the radiant heat of the hammam. A volcanic black soap scrub begins the service, which also includes exfoliation, body buffing, tea-infused shea butter and a clay mask.
The Other Treatments
For those seeking massages, options include the Desert Aromatherapy, therapeutic stone and Sahra Signature, the latter of which combines Thai, Swedish and shiatsu techniques. There are many other body treatments, including the Moonflower Ritual to restore the skin’s glow after a day in the sun or a long trip cross country. An Herbal Fusion Detox helps to boost circulation and even stimulates your metabolism as it rids the body of harmful toxins. Technicians rub the body with a warm herbal poultice, a dilo nut exfoliation and then a ginger root mask is applied for a full detox.
If you want some anti-aging work, try the Vegas spa’s HydraFacial, which promises to immediately reduce the look of fine lines, acne, hyperpigmentation, congestion and uneven skin tone with patented technology. The Decadent Youth Glow facial is similar to the HydraFacial, but uses microcurrents along with exfoliation and various serums. You can’t miss the Oxygen Radiance Facial, where the friendly technician uses oxygen to deliver anti-aging hyaluronic acid and custom anti-aging active ingredients deep into the skin’s cellular layers. Finally, a Luxury Lift involves kiwi and cranberry, as their antioxidant properties work to lift and brighten the skin. Even those high rollers operating on no sleep can look like they just got eight hours.
Dubbed The Violet Hour, the salon’s name is a tribute to how the sun transitions from day to night in the vast Nevada landscape with the sky often the most vibrant pink and royal purple. But it’s less about the view and more about pampering here. The luxury spa features two makeup chairs, six mani-pedi stations and 10 spots to get a high-sustainable hairdo (Vegas is dry, so you don’t have to worry about frizz) for a big night on the Strip.
If you want to unwind with a significant other or some friends, there is a lush spa penthouse called the Sahra Suite. Zip up a private elevator to the 1,400-square-foot private luxury spot with full Strip views. Relax on the deeply sunken couch and order some room service. Then soak in the two copper tubs, enjoy a private steam room and schedule a technician to come to you for services because the massage tables are right there. It’s the ultimate Vegas indulgence.
