Macau’s glamorous refuge
13 Treatment Rooms
A calming retreat amid the lights and liveliness of the action-packed Cotai Strip, ESPA at The Ritz-Carlton, Macau aims to pamper mind, body and soul with unique signature treatments and luxurious new facilities inside the Galaxy Macau resort complex.
Taking up a shared space between the all-suite The Ritz-Carlton, Macau and the world’s largest JW Marriott, the acclaimed international spa brand ESPA is known for personalized experiences, effective natural products and indulgent, bliss-inducing environs.
The gold, beige and brown lobby incorporates both Portuguese and Chinese aesthetics, such as mosaic-like metal details on the walls, marble floors and warm wooden touches. The space is dark and cavernous with winding, dimly lit corridors.
The relaxing starts with the water zones, where an abundance of calming amenities await. For instance, in the women's area, cocoon-like chairs sway above a glittering vitality pool. Amid the deep brown marble retreat there’s also a steam room, a dry sauna and an ice bath, all of which you are welcome to enjoy for up to an hour before a treatment begins.
Incorporating natural materials and a neutral color scheme, the treatment rooms at ESPA have an immediate soothing effect. Ambient lighting bathes the rooms in a soft glow while dark wood and onyx enrich the intimate atmosphere.
The treatments center around traditional Chinese medicine techniques, employing jade, hot stone massages, reflex point massage, body wraps and acupressure. To start, you have a thorough consultation with a therapist to assess goals, recurring issues, skin condition, energy imbalances and your at-home routine. Once evaluated, the therapist will suggest treatments suited to your particular needs.
Most of the signature treatments at the Macau spa begin with a relaxing and refreshing footbath, accompanied by hot tea. Ask about the Pearl River Chi for a deeply warming massage that uses natural ingredients to revitalize skin. The Reflex Meridien Massage aims to rebalance your qi energy flow.
There are also myriad facials, body wraps, manicures, pedicures and even jet lag cures available from the comprehensive menu. Before or after treatments, take a seat in the relaxation room where warm, cozy leather lounge chairs are designed to look like birdcages. You’ll also find several types of tea, healthy snacks, magazines and blankets to keep you snug and comfy.
A state-of-the-art fitness center brings together form and function, with new Technogym treadmills, bikes, elliptical machines and free weights in a warm wood environment that feels much more residential than like a typical hotel gym. Kettlebells and yoga mats are also available, as well as personal training options in case you’re serious about getting the most out of your workout.
Outside of the luxury spa, there’s more to explore on the Grand Resort Deck. Swimmers will appreciate the quiet lap pool that’s set apart from the more family-oriented water park. Of course, even adults will enjoy the river rapids ride and perhaps the Skytop wave pool, which is the largest of its kind in the world.
