Our Inspector's Highlights
  • The Macau spa has a philosophy of instilling wellness through a combination of both Chinese traditions, Macanese philosophies and new techniques using organic and other thoroughly tested, high-quality products.
  • Our favorite products and treatments use the Somme Institute line for the skin. Therapies aim to balance you in a way that inspires a lifestyle change.
  • Treatment rooms at this luxury spa are spacious and lush whether or not you have a view — which most rooms do.
  • When you book a signature treatment at the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star spa, you get a sample of the products used, and also get a recommendation from your therapist about the full products you might want to buy to bring home.
  • All services come with a bag of complimentary toiletries that you can use and take home with you — emphasizing the philosophy of a journey that is encouraged at the spa.
Things to Know
  • The best way to make an appointment at Mandarin Oriental, Macau's resident spa is to call the spa directly or pop in yourself to speak with the experts about what treatment and which therapist will be best for you — if you’re staying in the Five-Star hotel, it’s only an elevator ride away, after all.
  • Come in 15 to 20 minutes before your treatment begins for a consultation. It’s best to assess your needs at the time of your treatment and have those addressed, as opposed to deciding days ahead of time. what you might want or need on the day of your appointment.
  • The upscale spa has a cancellation policy that requires you to notify the spa at least 12 hours prior to your treatment.
  • Although cell phone use is discouraged, the treatment rooms offer a great deal of privacy so that fellow guests are not disturbed.
  • While the spa’s shop is modest in size, it has some great and hard to find products.
The Treatments
  • Picking a spa treatment can be a challenge, but we recommend the Oriental Essence massage. This signature treatment entails an oil massage meant to relieve tension and boost your spirit, does just that.
  • The Time Reversal facial uses Somme Institute products to achieve instant results. We walked away feeling like our skin was glowing and that feeling continued for a week.
  • You’ll have two therapists working in unison during the Oriental Harmony massage to make you feel harmoniously relaxed. Before it’s over, you’ll also enjoy a head and foot massage.
  • Lasting two hours, the indulgent Chang Qin Journey includes exfoliation, a steam shower and a massage that leaves you thoroughly relaxed and, as a bonus, incredibly soft.
  • Macanese Dragon Experience begins with a foot ritual that leads into a scrub. After a steam shower and bath, a Chinese lymphatic massage that incorporates bao ding, (or Chinese jade meditation balls) ends the invigorating treatment.
The Facilities
  • Couples’ treatment rooms have show-stopping windows facing the relaxing activity of the harbor and are equipped with massage beds, a vitality pool and private showers.
  • Regular treatment rooms have private showers, too, and with a lesser view of the street, we didn’t mind having the curtains drawn to create a dim, closed off space.
  • Locker rooms offer a vitality pool, steam room, sauna and experience shower.
  • The gym and pool are on the same floor, with the latter being a great length for doing laps with a great view of the harbor.
  • The nail spa is luxurious with its cushioned seating and porcelain basins for your feet. There is just enough privacy, but also openness so you can enjoy the space with friends.
