The Peabody Memphis is home to some of the biggest holiday events in Memphis. The historic Forbes Travel Guide Four-Star hotel holds a tree-lighting ceremony every Christmas season. The 30-foot Peabody Christmas tree is lit each year on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The hotel’s world-famous residents, the Peabody Ducks, kick the event off with their 11 a.m. daily march from their rooftop Royal Duck Palace to the lobby fountain. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., choirs from different schools and churches sing throughout the day. As the day goes on, the choirs get younger in age, until right before the 5 p.m. Duck March, a choir of five-year-olds sing “Here Comes Santa Claus.” The Duck Master marches the ducks up to their rooftop penthouse and Santa comes down, where he sits in his chair and hosts children on his knee. The hotel also offers a Thanksgiving and Christmas Brunch.
The luxury Memphis hotel throws a New Year’s Eve party, which along with Beale Street’s New Year’s Eve celebration, is one of the two biggest New Year’s Eve parties in Memphis. The party is different every year, but the hotel holds one gala in the grand ballroom with bands and DJs serving as hosts to the countdown. For those looking for a more refined soiree, the Peabody lobby has a jazz trio and the Corner Bar hosts a band.
