Bal Harbour's beachfront getaway
A newcomer to Miami, The Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, Miami opened in 2009 in one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in South Florida, Bal Harbour Village. Despite being the new kid on the block, the chic resort has become popular for its spectacular views of the Atlantic — it’s nestled along the pristine sands of Miami Beach — and posh amenities, such as the lavish spa.
The 18-story Ritz-Carlton offers 124 oceanview rooms with private entrances, and there are just two accommodations per floor. The two-story lobby’s jatoba columns, marble flooring, 22-foot ceilings, oversized glass windows, leather-upholstered walls plus a carefully curated international art collection (you can’t miss the dark Untitled, Oil on Canvas by Ed Moses, but head out to the Guy Dill Terrace to see the massive Close Hauled Bronze Sculpture as well) create a dramatic entrance into the luxurious stay that awaits inside.
Guest rooms range in size from 510 to 2,800 square feet, and are well-appointed with elegant details, including European wood cabinetry and granite countertops, free-standing tubs, feather-top mattresses and 10-foot floor-to-ceiling windows. Expansive terraces provide breathtaking 180-degree panoramic sights of the white sandy beaches, thanks to the building’s innovative curved design.
Outside, the luxury hotel boasts a secluded beachfront pool with comfy chairs and a grouping of private cabanas with individual hot tubs in the garden area where travelers like to gather and unwind. The Pool Bar & Grill lets you nosh on casual savory eats (everything from cured meats and artisan cheeses to an heirloom tomato salad and a grilled local fish sandwich) and sip tropical cocktails (the berry mojito with fresh berries or Mango Vice with Bacardi, mango puree and coconut cream) and champagne while you take in the views and the ocean breeze. For a more substantial meal, visit the hotel’s signature Bistro Bal Harbour restaurant. Enjoy wine and flavorful American dishes such as the 15-ounce New York strip with parsnip fries, mushroom and smoked bacon gravy, or the crispy soft-shell crab with sweet corn succotash while sitting outside and overlooking the water.
Not to be missed is the hotel’s 10,000-square-foot spa, a sanctuary opened in 2011, with indulgent services and a state-of-the-art fitness center. (Its signature One Blissful Journey — which includes a sea salt and aromatherapy soak in a sensory hydrotherapy tub, a full-body exfoliation, a hydrating shea butter cocoon and a scalp massage — is the perfect remedy after a long beach day.)
Attentive service is a standout at the Bal Harbour hotel. The staff will accommodate just about every request, from personal shoppers to private jet and yacht charters. Pet lovers: Fifi and Fido are welcome and will get the royal treatment, too, with doggie beds, bowls, treats and specially prepared meals. And the “pawcierge” will walk or dog-sit your four-legged companion.
While the calm Ritz-Carlton Bal Harbour, Miami is tucked away from the bustle of the city, it is also just minutes away from upscale shopping at Bal Harbour shops, Miami Beach Golf Club and Turnberry Isle Miami’s courses, and the buzzing South Beach nightlife, giving you the best of both worlds.
