The menu at Il Mulino New York does not include seasonal dishes, however the specials give the chef a chance to offer dishes that utilize ingredients in season. You’ll always find the signature dishes on the menu, such as osso buco (veal shank roasted in red wine and porchini mushroom sauce with saffron risotto), but the specials are frequently updated with seasonal vegetables and ingredients. Drinks are also given a seasonal spin. The housemade grappa, which the restaurant is well known for, is infused with fruits of the region and season. When we visited the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant, we ended our meal with a few sips of strawberry grappa. And though there are 12 (and counting) Il Mulino New York’s across the country, each location is influenced by its region. The Mamma Mia — a signature cocktail at the Miami outpost inside Acqualina Resort & Spa — is inspired by its South Florida location. The bartender takes red pepper and parsley-infused tequila and shakes it with fresh sour mix, brown sugar and cucumber. It’s the perfect fusion of spicy and breezy, just like Miami itself.
