The table settings at Il Mulino New York are traditional and elegant, just like the restaurant’s Old World Italian décor. Visualize tables draped in crisp white tablecloths cocooned by dark woodwork and dim lighting. Each place setting is arranged with elegant, white Villeroy & Boch china with a patterned rim, two Oneida forks and a butter knife, plus thick-lipped water and wine glasses, though should you order a cocktail before dinner, the wine glass will thoughtfully be removed. Later on in the meal, if you've ordered some vino, your server will return with a C&S wine glass with a much thinner lip, all the better for enjoying the fruit of the vine. Moreover, if you opt for one of the restaurant’s signature meat dishes, you’ll receive a sharp knife to cut through the meat — though our veal saltimbocca was so tender we probably didn’t even need it. To complete the romantic ambiance at your table, you’ll find centered on the table a single crimson rose in a vase and a candle in a glass holder, a glass jug filled with olive oil, and salt and pepper shakers. Along with the ballet of wait staff (all of whom wear white tie, we might add), the effect at the Forbes Travel Guide Recommended restaurant is definitely old school but, nevertheless, charming.
