30 Suites

Shrouded by trees and surrounded by rock on the very edge of an iconic lake in Quebec’s Laurentians region is Hôtel Quintessence, a 30-room boutique hotel at the base of Mont-Tremblant.

The hotel’s name, Quintessence (pronounced KIN-tess-awnse), is a nod to the mythical fifth essential element — when added to earth, air, fire and water, quintessence is that indefinable, untouchable ingredient representing purity, soul and spirit, the very essence of heaven. Indeed, the boutique hotel strives to add that element to your stay.

Located two hours northwest of Montreal, in the woods and by a lake, the hotel’s timber-and-stone structure evokes the spirit of a French hunting chateau. Inside, you’ll find décor in that vein, but more luxurious, including a wood-burning, floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace; a circular staircase; wrought iron; stained glass; and works of art depicting local landscapes. Sumptuous leather couches and ottomans are scattered about; the hotel’s mellow lighting casts a glow of soft gold both inside and out.

Twisting nature paths, an infinity pool and proximity to Tremblant’s great ski slopes keep you hungry for the traditional French fare with Quebec products served in the hotel’s La Quintessence Restaurant & Winebar (and the Winebar offers one of the best après-ski scenes in Mont-Tremblant). But it’s the spacious accommodations in the all-suite hotel that offer true indulgence: wooden beams, granite baths, deep carpet and deeper claw-foot tubs, plus wood-burning fireplaces and king-size beds in every room. You’ll have your own piece of heaven.
